Nearly three dozen whistleblowers came forward to WCPO.com and the Scripps News Washington Bureau saying the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati is in a state of disorder. They say veterans are not getting the care they need in the backyard of Secretary of Veterans Affairs Bob McDonald, the former chief executive of Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co. The multi-part investigation resulted in personnel changes at the VA Medical Center in Cincinnati and further federal investigations.
WPTV put together a special report on the toxic algae that has blanketed Treasure Coast waters. Journalists spoke to health experts, Army Corps officials, elected officials, business owners and others about the problem and how it can be fixed.
In both of these investigations, Scripps journalists are giving light and changing lives in their local communities. The storytelling exposes the problems and the relentless pursuit of a solution forces action by local organizations and government agencies. The Scripps Howard Foundation is firmly committed to supporting journalism.
